Tunica County, Mississippi is strategically located within proximity to the second-busiest airport in the world by cargo traffic (Memphis International Airport), the fifth-busiest inland port in the U.S., five of the six Class I railroads, easy access to six interstate highways and more than twenty colleges and universities. The county is also home to an active Foreign-Trade Zone and provides numerous incentive offerings to help offset investment and operational costs.

Tunica is the southernmost county in the Memphis, TN-MS-AR Metropolitan Area and the northernmost county fully located within the Mississippi River Delta region of the U.S

Highways & Automobiles

Tunica County has a modern road system with improvements taking place each year as our growth occurs. Tunica is served by U.S. Highway 61, which runs north and south throughout the county. Twenty miles north of Tunica County, U.S. 61 connects with Interstate 40. Interstate 55 is located 18 miles east of Highway 61.

A portion of Interstate 69 connecting Canada to Mexico connects Tunica County to Interstate 55, providing direct interstate access to the county. The I-69 Connection form I-55 to I-22 (U.S. Highway 78) provides more direct access to Birmingham and Atlanta. 

State Highways 4, 310 and 315 provide alternate routes into Tunica County from the south. State Highway 3 intersects with Highway 61 in northern Tunica County and follows a north/south route through the county on the east.

Tunica County is within 500 miles of 70 percent of the nation’s population. The Memphis (TN) Commercial Freight Zone has more than 200 motor freight carriers serving the area. This freight zone is home to most national carriers.

Railways & Trains

Railways Tunica County is served by Canadian National Railroad with a mainline, welded track running along the eastern portion of the county. Canadian National has an internmodel facility at the Port of Memphis connecting all class 5 U.S. railroads.

Ports & Boats

Tunica County has a port site identical with some basic infrastructure suitable for barge on/off loading. The Port of Memphis is located 23 miles north of Tunica along the Mississippi River in Memphis. The Port of Memphis is the second largest inland port on the Mississippi River. The port has a channel depth of 9 feet and ranks number one in the United States in foreign import tonnage.

The Port of Memphis is one of the fastest growing designated ports of entry in the United States. Ninety percent of Nike and Williams-Sonoma products clear U.S. Customs here. More than 30 international freight forwarders operate in Memphis.

Airports & Planes

The Memphis International Airport (MEM) is located 22 miles Northeast or 30 minutes from Tunica Industrial Sites.  MEM offers hundreds of flights daily to major airports across the United States.  MEM is also home to FEDEX and UPS, providing late night service for delivery the next day.  Memphis holds the distinction of being the Number One Cargo Airport in the world.

The Tunica Airport (KUTA) is located 10 miles South of industrial sites.  This general purpose airport has an 8500 foot runway, 150 foot wide taxiway, ILS, fuel service and currently supports up to 727’s, 737’s and MD 80’s. Click here for more information.
